Governor’s Downtown Derby Celebration, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in downtown Frankfort, Saturday, May 3. Enjoy children’s activities including the YMCA‘s Derby Dash for children ages 2-12, Folk Bike Recyclery‘s Pedal for the Posies,  food to suite all tastes, live music and great fun. Capital Cellars, 227 W Broadway, Opens at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast. Featuring “sit-down” or “on the go” options. Best hat and bow tie contest, at 12 noon. Stay and watch the races, specialty drinks served! Info: 352-2600.

Melanie’s, 328 St. Clair St, Open at 8:00 a.m. serving Derby Strada, sausage, biscuits & gravy, juice and coffee.

Eclectic Mix, 300 St. Clair St., Open 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. featuring mint julep, moonshine and bourbon truffles.

Derby Day Celebration Activities at First Christian Church, 316 Ann St. Family friendly activities including pony rides, face painting, crafts and a really BIG slide. All FREE. Info: 223-2346.
Magee’s Bakery Doughnuts & More will have Derby bonnet cupcakes, mint julep treats, and much, much more.  225 W. Main.

Cornerstone Art & Event Gallery Derby Day Event: 9:00 a.m. Vendors open, 10:00 a.m. -Bluegrass Theatre Guild will be doing skits every half an hour until 1:00.  11:00 a.m. – Artists Reception in Gallery for Candace Christopher, Cheryl Olds Cheek and Suzy Hosley.  12:00 noon, – Derby Hat Contest for Kids 8 and Under and dancing with Just Do You Fitness. 1:00:00 p.m. – Vendors and Vendor Reception.  Food, music, dancing, face painting, sand art and lots of fun.  Located at 100 East Broadway in front of the Commonwealth Credit Union.

Derby Day Celebration: Decorate a Horse – Lapel Pin, 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon at Full Circle Studio & Gallery, 121 Bridge St. A class for all ages! Design and paint a horse shaped lapel pin for the Derby! Only $20/person. Info: createfullcircle@gmail.com. 

Derby Celebration Basket Raffles, featuring “Taste of Frankfort”, “Derby-Frankfort Style”, “Frankfort Places”, and “Frankfort Getaway” baskets. Register to win at the Frankfort Tourism Tent on the Old Capital Lawn. Drawings to be held at 10:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and noon.

Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe is serving up Derby breakfast with homemade pancakes, egg burritos, sausage & ham biscuits, and -of course- organic coffees.  Starting at 8a.m. they will also have build-your-own egg ‘n cheese bagels, scones, muffins, and more.  During lunch time, J’Beaux is grilling Frankfort-famous brats & dogs.  The Coffeetree will also be showing the Kentucky Derby on their large screen TV later in the day. 235 W. Derby Day Celebration: Painting Horses on Canvas, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Full Circle Studio & Gallery, 121 Bridge St., A class for all ages! Come paint a horse on canvas while enjoying some delicious derby desserts. $25/person. Info: createfullcircle@gmail.com
Buddy’s Pizza will have hot pizza slices to go starting at 9a.m.  212 W. Broadway.
Gibby’s is featuring Kentucky Hot Browns, as well as a variety of breakfast sandwiches (country ham biscuits, bacon, egg & cheese biscuits, etc.), and mimosas, coffee, and juice.  Breakfast a la carte will also be availble, including pancakes, eggs, fresh fruit, etc.  204 W. Broadway.
