Kentucky Historical Society “First Lady of the Confederacy: Varina Davis’ Civil War”, Wednesday, June 4, at Noon at the History Center, 100 W. Broadway, Professor John Cashin will discuss the extraordinary life of Mrs. Jefferson Davis, who probably saved her husband’s life at the capture in 1865; moved to NYC when she became a widow, and became friends with Mrs. Ulysses Grant. Kentucky Shakespeare Festival brings its Shakespeare Youth Academy to Frankfort, Liberty Hall on June 16 – 27, 2008. “Camp Shakespeare” meets 9:00-4:00 Monday through Friday for two weeks, for children ages 8-12. Tuition is $325. Created as comprehensive theatre education for children where young actors are lead by professional artist educators to use the power and expressiveness of their voice, bodies and thoughts to create characters and tackle text. With an emphasis on educating the whole child, Shakespeare Youth Academy encourages collaboration, enlivens imagination and enhances self-esteem.
