JOIN DOWNTOWN FRANKFORT, INC

We are pleased to announce that a 2007 façade grant to the City of Frankfort and DFI has made a significant difference in 21 structures downtown. The $150,000.00 helped building owners make much needed upgrades to their properties, and resulted in over 3 million dollars in private investment downtown. What a great example of public/private partnership working for revitalization.

Downtown has also experienced some very exciting new investment over the past several years, sparked by the purchase and rehabilitation of the seven-story McClure Building at Main and St. Clair Streets. This lovely structure is returning back to its glory days as the place for an office downtown, and is currently at over 85% occupancy. Nearby, the 321 building will see much needed renovations this spring, and we are looking forward to watching it come to life again.

Thankfully, another wonderful structure was saved, on the corner of Clinton and Ann Streets. This newly renovated office space is a wonderful addition to our historic district, as well. Additionally, we're happy to announce that by summertime we will be enjoying three new evening venues – two restaurants that will be open for lunch and dinner, and an Irish Pub on St. Clair.

Our local Kentucky State University is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, and will be opening their new space downtown; finally forging a "town and gown" connection with downtown. Formerly the Federal Building/Old Library, this building will house an African American Art Gallery, community space, and a land exhibit of the area ecosystem. Additionally, they will be adding a Science Barge, docked behind the building on the Kentucky River. This will enable school kids from all over Kentucky to learn about the environment through interactive activities on the water.

Another interesting transformation has occurred at the former Good Shepherd sanctuary. This gorgeous structure is now managed by City Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites, and will be open throughout the year for exhibits and community events. And the growth continues nearby as construction begins on the addition to our historic Courthouse!

This downtown renaissance has also been spurred on by a growing arts scene. In its second successful season, The Grand Theatre is attracting evening and weekend crowds for live performances, streaming operas and Academy Award winning films. This summer, DFI and The Grand Theatre will host bi-weekly films to alternate with our popular Friday night Summer Concert Series.
